About Us

Nobuhiko Kitamura was born 1962 in Tokyo, Japan. He began working for Ozone Community Corporation straight after he graduated Tokyo Mode Gakuen in 1984. That same year he started Hysteric Glamour at the age of 21. From the beginning, his collections were inspired by rock music that he was hooked on since his early teen years. He is one of the forerunners to introduce collections that integrated rock and fashion. His love of rock and his talent has brought him close to stars such as Sonic Youth, Primal Scream, Patti Smith, and Courtney Love. His artistic sensibility and attraction to vintage pornography and contemporary art is expressed through Hysteric Glamour t-shirts, which have become a staple of the brand. He also is deeply involved in the photography industry by self-producing and publishing artwork of photographers such as Terry Richardson, Daido Moriyama, and Nobuyoshi Araki.

Hysteric Glamour Women was created in 1984 with inspirations drawn from the styles of rock queens such as the intelligent and hysteric Patti Smith and the glamorous Debbie Harry from BLONDIE. Designer, Nobuhiko Kitamura, praised these rock icons and designed his collections to fit the image of the hysteric yet glamorous female, which became the name of the brand. Kitamura designs pieces that he feels the muses of the time whether they be musicians or actresses should wear. Hysteric Glamour is known for its hip unisex style that incorporates skinny low waist bottoms with a variation of t-shirts and jackets. Kitamura believes that sexiness is not all about showing skin, but to embrace female strength and to have fun with fashion.

Hysteric Glamour Men started in 2001, drawing heavy influence from rock, art, and vintage pornography, that designer Nobuhiko Kitamura is personally obsessed with. Hysteric Glamour Men's line touches on American subculture of the 60's and 70's with a nod to militaristic style and uniforms. These take shape with motifs, materials, processing, and even needlework, authentically grounded to his themes. Hysteric Glamour denim are originally developed, hand-sewn and washed. Every process of making the denim is a craft in its own to achieve the real vintage look. The line offers collaboration products that incorporate graphics and photo prints of the Velvet Underground, Led Zeppelin, Ramones, Bob Dylan, T-Rex, The Doors, The Stooges, Nirvana, and more.
